Raised by a father who was an electrical engineer and a mother who was in academe, Psi mê Thuy Loan developed an early interest in the arts, and in painting & photography in particular. As a young girl growing up in Hanoi, she would draw và paint every opportunity she had, & her parents supported her interests. Seeing a cthất bại connection between art and science, she decided to lớn pursue a degree in Architecture from the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering & became a lecturer at the university after graduation.

Loan later went lớn Japan khổng lồ obtain her Masters và Doctorate degrees in Urban Engineering và Design from Tokyo University. Her research focused on urban thiết kế in Hanoi, where she was born và felt a close connection to lớn. “I wanted to lớn focus on how I could help rebuild my country, which had been ravaged by war. There were a lot of ways khổng lồ bởi vì that, but to me, building a high quality living environment for the Vietnamese people was the best way I could contribute,” says Loan.

She returned to lớn Hanoi University of Civil Engineering after finishing her graduate degree khổng lồ resume working as a lecturer and architect. She sees this work combination as an ikhuyến mãi mix up. She views teaching as a means to mold young people and encourage innovation, và architecture & research work as an opportunity khổng lồ channel her creativity. “I find many chances to lớn develop & explore myself in construction and architecture work. It’s very flexible & creative. The best part is that there is always a new approach you can take each time. If I had a chance lớn live sầu again, I would still choose to be an architect and a lecturer,” said Loan. “I love sầu my life và I love sầu what I’m doing.” On top of all her professional pursuits, Loan is a mother to two young girls as well as a recreational painter. These days, she mostly does portraits of her daughters using watercolor và pastels.

Being a successful woman architect & professor in Vietphái nam is not without its challenges. As in most other societies, Vietnamese women are often seen as caretakers of the trang chính, first và foremost. They play a social & economic role like men, but they also play a big role in the family. When I face these difficulties in my professional or personal life, I try to clearly understvà the challenges và eventually figure out how to giảm giá with them. You cannot bởi vì everything at once. You need to understand what your first priority is during that period of your life,” she concedes. Her advice to lớn young women who want lớn have both a successful career and family life? “No matter what you bởi vì, understanding yourself and having a clear goal in mind are the keys to lớn success.
